Over the years, Samuel and his mum Kelly saw several doctors and were in and out of the Emergency Department as Samuel struggled with his breathing. Kelly booked an appointment with their local GP who then referred the pair for diagnosis and education at Respiratory Care WA’s Children’s Respiratory Hub.
“We are so grateful for the services we received at the hub for our son, Samuel,” shares Kelly.
“By the end of our first consultation, I already felt less anxious and more confident in knowing how to manage Samuel’s respiratory condition. Dr Stephen Oo, the Lung Function Testing we received and the education by the respiratory nurse, as well as their ongoing support, really made a difference to our quality of life as a family. If I had any questions or needed clarification, I just gave RCWA a call and would speak to one of the nurses who really helped.”
Samuel now has a clear and up-to-date Asthma Action Plan, so that if he has a respiratory flare-up, Samuel and his family and school know what to do and what medication he requires.
“He is also on a preventer, and this has meant that even when he has a flare-up, he is not needing to go to ED or miss school.”
Samuel is now active again, enjoying playing sport with his friends and is living his best life.
“Without the Children’s Respiratory Hub, our family life would be a lot more stressful. We think it’s an incredible service. Please support the Children’s Respiratory Hub to continue. With your ongoing support, it means more children with asthma can continue to live active lives and thrive.”
