Asthma and COPD have no cure so we’re working to help Western Australians breathe better.

Although Respiratory Care WA receives part funding from government, we need generous support from generous individuals and organisations who want to help us improve the lives of the WA community. Hear more about the people we are helping:

Our Year In Review

  • Delivered 1:1 free, personalised services to more than 4,000 Western Australian individuals and their families with asthma and COPD
  • Provided free, best practice lung Function Testing (LFT) for nearly 1,500 kids and adults. The Children’s Respiratory hub is only partly funded. We experienced a 300% increase in demand with our FY25 on track to increase again 200% YoY
  • Expanded our Respiratory Hubs from four locations to six locations, increasing the number from 4/ month to 19/ month
  • Launched an Australian- first regional hub in Bunbury. The South West Respiratory Hub is dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable in the regions with diagnosis, clinical support and education
  • Launched two pop up clinics on-site at Aboriginal Medical Services as part of our commitment to Aboriginal health outcomes
  • Delivered services and education to more than 800 indigenous Australians through regional outreach in Albany, Bunbury and Leonora
  • Educated 5,000 students and 2,500 teachers through schools’ education

Our Impact

  • 90% reduction in emergency presentations after initial visit, 89% reduction in hospitalisations after an initial visit for our consumers
  • 22% improvement in Asthma Control scores for paediatric consumers; 11% improvement in Asthma Control scores for adult consumers. A 10% improvement is considered a sizeable improvement
  • Continue to improve quality of life for children and their families by 43%. COPD consumers report a 20% increase in quality of life after accessing our services
  • 11% reduction in Generalised Anxiety after seeing an Asthma WA respiratory educator
  • Decrease in CAT score (COPD Assessment Test) scores by 20.5% after seeing our team three times

Our 60 Year Community Impact

Since 1960, we have run hundreds of community outreach programs in WA’s rural and remote regions:

  • Educated more than 150,000 teachers
  • Delivered services to more than 1,000 Indigenous Australians across the state. Indigenous Australians now make up 12% of our current consumers
  • Provided Lung Function Testing to high-performance athletes as part of sporting partners
  • Educated thousands of coaches and physical education teachers on asthma management in sports through our Activ8 program
