Binar Futures Health Embassy

Respiratory Care WA has joined forces with Binar Futures and St John of God Murdoch Hospital to launch a new health initiative. Hundreds of young people from around the state come together to compete and participate in the Binar Futures Basketball Tournament with a Health Embassy as part of the event.

At the events dedicated doctors and nurses are there to offer free health checks, education and advice, including free Lung Function Testing from Respiratory Care WA, for all participants and their parents.

Respiratory Care WA is delighted to support this important cause to raise awareness and education amongst the Aboriginal youth. Aboriginal Australians are twice as likely to have asthma and twice as likely to die from asthma than non-Aboriginal Australians.

Together with Binar, we’re determined to improve quality of life for Aboriginal Australians. Our focus is on improving the lives of people with respiratory health conditions and empowering these young athletes to reach their full potential. There are many kids who suffer from asthma and are not diagnosed or slip through the cracks.

The Binar community group was founded by Adam Desmond 12 years ago with a basketball team and a group of boys from the Midland area. Binar is the Noongar word for meteor and has now evolved into an organisation reaching more than 2,000 young people.
